A Story from My Christmas past
I must have been in 5th or 6th grade in this picture. I was never good at remembering years, but I do remember this pivotal moment. Sometimes I wonder if things would have turned out differently had I not received this gift from my parents. They knew I was interested in art, and they did what they could to encourage my pursuit. These were my first "real” art supplies. It had a little bit of everything… acrylic paints, oil paints, watercolors, charcoal pencils, drawing pencils, and canvases. I was blown away. I remember it came with an instruction booklet that walked me through my first oil painting. I can still picture the paintings I created with this set. I was hooked!
This was the Christmas gift that fueled the flame of my interest in art. I was fortunate enough to have parents who saw art as something worth pursuing. This is probably why I also try to provide my son with the means to pursue any interest he has. You never know which one they are going to grab onto and carry with them for the rest of their lives.
I share this story with you as a reminder of how important our support is to our children. You are probably here because your homeschooled child is also interested in art and I'm sure you want to do what you can to support them because this could be in the interest they turn into a career or maybe they hang on to it as a way of self-care into their adulthood.
You may have been looking for an art curriculum for your teen because art is not your thing. We all have our areas we need to farm out to others to teach especially in high school. Well, I have some exciting news. As you may know, I have been working on creating an art course for homeschooled teens. Just in time for Christmas, enrollment starts Monday, December 18th, 2023 for beta testing. If you are interested in checking it out at 50% off, you will definitely want to join my free Art School Founders’ Club. Members of this group have already given input on what this course should look like. They will also receive 50% off the course in exchange for continuing to give input on the course when it starts in January.
This has been several months in the making, and I can’t wait to share it with you and your teen. Be on the lookout for details next Monday!
