INTRODUCING
High School Art I:
For Homeschool Teens
This is a 2 semester course that lays a strong foundation for the rest of your student’s high school and college career.
High School Art I: for Homeschool Teens is the debut course for Art School by Katkins Studio. There are more coures in the works. Art II will be ready for fall 2025.
What if you could have a high school art course
for your homeschoolers that…
Prepares teens for college art school
Fosters inspiration, pride, and growth
Provides rubrics for super easy grading even if you aren’t an artist
Gives them the foundation for their high school art career
Leaves them with their first portfolio worthy work of art
Supports them every step of the way with weekly zoom calls, Discord server, and email access
Has a platform for socialize with other students
AND is secular and inclusive by studying art by not only the great masters in Europe, but also current and BIPOC artists
But instead, you are frustrated because so far….
You don’t know the first thing about art, much less grading it
You and your teen are tired of copycat art projects because it leaves your child uninspired and limits their creative potential
Your child feels alone with no one to tell them if they are going in the right direction or not (That’s not your fault. Art is just not your thing.)
You and your teen are tired of art projects for younger kids because it doesn’t allow for artistic growth
You don’t want to be tied to ANOTHER subscription
Don’t worry. I’ve got you. You are in the right place!
Art School by Katkins Studio focuses on developing the skills your teen needs to improve their art starting with a strong foundation.
Let me introduce myself
I am an artist with a background in graphic design. I love all things art and I have my whole life. I studied graphic design and fine arts in college. My work has been in exhibits around St. Louis, MO. I sell my work as well. In addition to an artist, I am also a homeschool mom. I teach art classes at my local co-op in Illinois. Like you, I have noticed there aren’t really any great homeschool art curricula options for teenagers. Most of them cut off after middle school. I knew I could help these teenagers develop their skills and have fun doing it. That is why I created this course.
What Parents are saying
“We were eager for a course that was geared towards teens! We have used other art programs/resources that we have liked but they are rarely focused on the older student. As a homeschool mom, I often felt I needed to add more to bring the lessons up to their level. We also looked forward to input and access to an artist and art teacher who could provide feedback and support.
Expectations were met and exceeded. My kids have really enjoyed the course and the weekly Zoom chats with Karen and other students. The Discord server and positive interaction with other students art has been encouraging for them. I love the mix of lesson and direction while also allowing space for their own personal spin. We really appreciate this!”
“Good morning. I have been feeling a need to reach out to you. [My girls] are really enjoying it and feel they are getting a lot out of the class. They also really appreciated that you took their suggestions and implemented them. They feel these changes made the videos much more enjoyable. I have had several opportunities to recommend your class in homeschool social media groups, and I do so without hesitation. Thank you for making this course.”
“My daughter has enjoyed the course. It has kept her engaged and she is learning new things. She likes interacting with the other students. It has been well worth the price.”

You have lifetime access. What does that mean? It means as long as I am doing business, you will have access. In the highly unlikely event that I have to shut down the course, you would receive plenty of notice, and I would make everything downloadable.

No worries. I’ve got you covered. I have rubric for each project that will walk you through how to grade each work of art. If you still don’t feel comfortable, reach out to the Facebook group. You (the adult of your homeschool) will receive an invite to our Facebook group. If all else fails, I am just an email away. karenatkins@katkinsstudio.com

You’re right. It is a lot of projects. I wanted to make sure I covered every type of student. For the high-achievers, I have given them plenty to work on. Some of these projects can take a few hours. Depending on how much time your student spends on art each week, it could take some students two or three weeks to complete. That is perfectly normal. If your student would be more comfortable skipping one to two projects between each project, that is plenty to earn the credit and develop their skills. They will just want to make sure they are consuming the content of each lesson so they don’t miss out on anything important.

No. This is a completely self-directed course. I teach the materials in video format. They can ask questions in the Discord server, and I will also be on a weekly Zoom call with all the students to answer any questions they may have or to give input on their work.
If you need grades for your student, I have included rubrics to help you with grading. If you need help, there is a Facebook group where you can get help. If you still need help, feel free to email me at karenatkins@katkinsstudio.com.

Your student can work at their own pace. At the high school level, projects can take a while. Your student doesn’t have to complete EVERY project. If they are still working on last week’s project, I would suggest watching the current week’s lessons, but skipping the project. If they complete every other one or two projects, they will have plenty to do and learn from. I put in extra weekly projects for the student who craves more. As far as my live Zoom calls go, I’m happy to answer questions about whatever week they are on.
