Night visitors
"Night Visitors" is a poignant portrayal of the artist's personal experience with narcolepsy-induced hallucinations. The dark, murky void dominating the bottom two-thirds of the painting serves to emote the paralyzing fear that grips the artist during these episodes, which are particularly traumatic as they often occur just before she falls asleep or as she wakes up. As the viewer takes in the intricacies of the painting, they can visualize the artist's deep-rooted dread, even as the shadow figures subtly peek around corners. Although not a victim of sleep paralysis, the artist conjures up an overwhelming sense of terror that she lays immobile, unable to move or call for help during these episodes, vulnerable to the intrusive presence in her mind. The painting evokes a visceral emotion from viewers and offers a powerful insight into the artist's personal struggles with her condition.
